You can help reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills by bringing items in need of repair to the Repair Café organized by Sustainable Saratoga and the Saratoga Springs Public Library. The event will be held Saturday, June 16, from 11AM until 2PM in the library’s Harry Dutcher Community Room. Instead of throwing away that broken toaster or toy, repair coaches will be available to help repair items free of charge. Tools and materials will also be on hand.

Maybe Professor Turner can bring his dysfunctional council/manager government’s carcass to the Repair Cafe… Oh, sorry – these guys can’t bring the dead back to life.

I’m all for something of this nature. Now if we can get Sustainable Saratoga to stick to things of this nature rather than bike trails, pocket parks and housing……

Sustainability Saratoga is an umbrella that strives to conserve a balance within our community that avoids not only a depletion of resources, natural and man made, but also mandates a fundamental commitment to sustainable development for the next generation. Open space, pocket parks, trails and housing … all become part of it. Unfortunately, for those of us that do our own repairs, we realize that too many newer items are designed and fabricated for a short one-time use. Planned obsolescence in detailing, material thickness and component construction will make repairs less attractive, and yet, it can done. Think Cuban.
