This blogger lives in a different universe than the Saratoga Springs Democratic Committee.
To this blogger, being an elected official requires the highest standards of ethics. The people have elected their officials because they believe these men and women will scrupulously avoid abusing their position by drawing on the city’s resources for personal use. I cannot believe this is even debatable. Yet, we have two clear instances in which former Saratoga Springs Public Works Commissioner Jason Golub and current Public Works Deputy Joe O’Neill exploited the trust of this community by using city employees and city materials to work on private premises, and the Democratic Committee dismisses this behavior by blaming it on alleged racism and revenge.
I find it particularly discouraging that the committee would stoop to using racism to dismiss wrongdoing.
I take no pleasure in the exposure of these two men’s actions, nor do I hope that the penalties they may incur will be severe. I know this kind of petty corruption is too common in our country. Still, I am proud that in pursuing these charges, this city announces that what may be business as usual in other cities will not be tolerated in Saratoga Springs. Rather than cast doubt on the integrity of our police department as the Democratic Committee has done, I am proud of them.
As an enrolled Democrat, I ask: Is there not one member of the Saratoga Springs Democratic Committee who will speak out regarding their committee’s behavior in this matter?

So I don’t get it—were the police supposed to only charge the white male Republican Joe O’Neill and not charge Jason Golub for the same offense because he is black?

Using public employees or public property to benefit public officials is corruption. Period. Full stop.

Who put up the Facebook post? Who is responsible? Tim Coll is doing a great job. Sounds like more “rules for thee but not for me” from the dems. A primary reason they got beat so badly last Tuesday.

Neither Commissioner Coll nor the SSPD are racists. It is difficult to understand why either would be ‘motivated’ to seek revenge against former Commissioner Golub or Deputy Commissioner O’ Neil.
The Saratoga Springs Democratic Committee seems to be engaging in the same type of hyperbolic charges against Tim Coll and our police department that one might find in the Roy Cohn/Donald Trump playbook. As a former, long-time Democratic Committeeperson, it is sad for me to see that Committee make such an irresponsible statement. The old Democratic Committee had higher standards.

Really Chris? Comparing what the dem committee did in regard to Tim Coll doing his job to Donald Trump sounds like sore loser stuff to me. Like our outgoing president you should just fade away.

I’m not sure who you are or how well you know Chris, yet having known him for years, I find him to be one of the more logical (and we have not always agreed) persons to serve on the Council. The point seems to be that the current Dem committee is focused in misinformation to serve themselves and revenge when challenged. That comes directly from the trump play book.
