For Readers Interested In Being Challenged: A Talk At Skidmore College

Dr. Pushi Prasad contacted me about an upcoming lecture at Skidmore College. Dr. Prasad is the Zankel Chair Professor in Management for Liberal Arts Students at the college and is an interesting thinker. Any recommendation from her is well worth considering.

I know that many of the people who follow this blog are supporters of Donald Trump, but I also know that many are intellectually curious and willing to engage with people who may not share their views.

“Entrepreneurship versus Democracy: American Business Culture and the Road to Trump”

“American business culture prizes little else as highly as entrepreneurship, which seems like a synonym for prosperity, innovation, and even freedom itself. But our celebration of entrepreneurship has a dark side. As our speaker will argue, efforts to promote entrepreneurship have often encouraged deference to charismatic leadership and suspicion of collective action, laying the groundwork for our current crisis of democracy.”

  1. My apologies for my delayed response, but I am struck by the lecture’s title as well as the verbiage of your article in regards to President Trump.

In his lecture’s title, it erroneously concludes for the ‘audience’ two separate paths for an entrepreneur, that by the path of Trump is somehow a bad thing. You also state while you have Trump supporters in your audience, only some of them are interested in hearing and learning an opposing view.

Instead of boxing people in to two separate groups, please try to comprehend the constructs and beliefs of the conservative movement. Conservatism truly believes in the power of individuals to collaborate for success which usually becomes a shared success. What leads people behind President Donald Trump are his Conservative beliefs. All Conservatives I know are always interested in truly listening and understanding an opposing view and are always respectful of those beliefs and opinions. We want to learn how to find common ground and build constructive collaborative partnerships.

The true test of one’s ability to understand these principles would be to listen on UTube ‘Rush Limbaugh’s CPAC speech. It IS long and has been broken down into two parts. Despite what one thinks of Rush Limbaugh, it IS eye opening and revealing of the movement called Conservatism-an established middle-ground philosophy. You see, it is not just ‘Donald Trump followers’, but people with shared beliefs and goals to help one another achieve their true potential!

    Sincerely,

  2. A PS to my previous comment:

It’s not the man (President Donal J Trump) that energizes his ‘base’ of Conservatives and Republicans (for one we all know man is fallible), it is his (Conservative) values and beliefs that empowers and emboldens even the least significant American into believing (s)he can do almost anything once thought unbelievable/unachievable!!!
