In my previous blog post I wrote that Saratoga Springs Public Works Commissioner Jason Golub supported moving Risk and Safety from the Accounts Department to the Mayor’s office. This was incorrect. He abstained from that vote.
At the June 7, 2022, Council meeting where the move was discussed, Golub was adamant that he believed the proposed process was incorrect. He thought there should be an independent arbitrator evaluating if only portions of the job should be moved or if it should be moved at all.
At the August 2, 2022, Council meeting when the matter came up again, Golub said he did agree with Montagnino’s statement that it made sense for Risk and Safety to be with the City Attorney because of how closely they work together, however Golub said the process taking place was flawed and concerning. He thought there was validity to putting Risk and Safety in other places, but that isn’t what they were doing that night. “We are moving an employee from one department to another without consent of that employee’s boss.” Golub believed they should assess the role after the person who was currently in the position retired.
I’d like to know why the City is leasing space from NYRA for a fire station. Bonacio bought land nearby on Union Avenue & is currently developing it. No one on City Council could/would answer the question. With the sales tax increases, it seems the City should have budgeted for a 3rd fire station.
It would appear the City panders to NYRA
I’ve attended Council meetings for a year + requesting relief from the one way street on Lincoln Avewhich is vacant from post time for 1st race to departure.
NYRA allows entry thru a gate but turned Lincoln Avenue, a PEDESTRIAN ONLY GATE for the 50+ years I’ve owned there. Into a MAIN EXIT. Traffic can take 20-30 minutes to go from Nelson to Wright St. To Frank Sullivan Place. To Lincoln ave. 2 tenths of a mile
It’s then 2-3 hours of stop and go traffic.
The governor is banning gas cars, gas furnaces, gas stoves, gas acs. How can the City justify this toxic situation?
The City will NOT give me an answer.

The City Council needed to pass the ordinance to make Lincoln Ave. one-way during the “racing season.”
Yet, as Ms Tait tells us, NYRA can independently, WITHOUT ANY CITY APPROVAL, turn a city street (East Lincoln Ave. between the track exit and Nelson Ave.) into another main exit from their parking lots. This creates a non-stop flow of traffic in that section of Lincoln Ave.
NYRA has effectively created their own, opposite, one-way street. The current Mayor and Public Safety Commissioner will silently fade into the sunset without addressing this local nightmare. Is Siro’s letting Ms Tait throw the snowballs for them? Where is the outcry from Siro’s?
