This latest video of Black Lives Matter leader Lexis Figuereo is from an event on Tuesday July 6, 2021. The City Council was about to meet and Mr. Figuereo was apparently being asked to wait before being allowed up the stairs of city hall to the meeting. The officer was waiting for his supervisor’s instructions to let him pass.
At one point in this video, Figuereo tells the officer repeatedly to “Suck my black d…”
When asked by the Times Union why he said this he responded that he has no respect for the police.
“I’m not going to stand there and have police laugh and smile at me while I’m trying to get into a meeting. And playing dumb. When I asked what door to go to for the City Council meeting. I have no idea. I’m not a rated -G person. At the time, I was angry and I said that. I don’t apologize.”

One of the disturbing aspects of this video is that Mr. Figuereo put this up on the web himself. He wasn’t caught acting this way, he apparently is proud of it. It simply demonstrates again how troubled this man is.
The irony is that the three police officers demonstrated their training and discipline by maintaining a calm and professional demeanor in spite of the abuse being heaped on them.
Imagine if the police had addressed him in a similar manner. What would the coverage of the incident been like?

It is, of course, ironic, that the law is what keeps Mr. Figuero alive. To enter City Hall, the public house of the people, and insult those who guard it would be considered a breach of etiquette in every culture on earth. Figuero’s identity is in such tatters that he does not understand where he is. Public officials have the right to perform a threat assessment on Figuereo. He is not exacly a Norman Rockwell painting.
In antiquity, the place from where he came would have been punished for his lack of courtesy.

Other citizens could be seen in the video, being allowed access to the Council chambers. Why was this group being told to stand down? Another example of mishandling the situation by our police dept. Or were orders given at a higher level? Bad language? Absolutely. But let’s look into the reasons for the standoff before making judgments.

Respect is a two way street… having a history of acting the fool does have its consequences.
End result is he and his fellows still had seats in the chamber (I guess he has never had to wait outside a theater) -just using any possible “issue” to take umbrage and insult the police that have their own responsibility for security of city hall. “Respect”, that doesn’t play to the injustice warrior crowd he needs to make himself “relevant”. Why doesn’t he drag himself back down to Albany where they seem to be shootings every day of late? He can apply himself to saving BLACK/BROWN lives where the is real danger….but that would imply leadership.

How about you look into the reasons before assuming this group was being singled out? Responsibility goes in all directions. Do your own due diligence.

While I agree with those who have called for Assistant Police Chief Catone to apologize for the intemperate remarks he made at a recent press conference, it would also be fair and helpful if those sources also asked the same of BLM leader Lexis Figuereo as the Gazette has done. Additional apologies that the LWV and the TU might ask for should be from the sister of the victim of a recent motor cycle accident who went to the media to falsely accuse the police of injuring her brother. Not until all parties are willing to acknowledge and apologize for their misstatements can the movement for social justice truly move forward.

I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a “more convenient season.” Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.
