So Proud Of Our Police

The fact that our police were able to subdue without harm to anyone a disturbed man who fired rounds at city hall and at an unmanned police car speaks to the professionalism and sense of service of our men and women in the SSPD. The members of our Police Department and their leadership, chief Tyler McIntosh and Public Safety Commissioner Tim Coll, deserve our deep appreciation.

  1. Appreciated too was the professionalism of the press conference held after this incident by Commissioner Coll and Chief McIntosh. A far cry from the Kim and Montagnino show put on the last time there was a shooting downtown.

  2. Assuming that the ‘incident’ could have resulted in the justified use of deadly force, we should be most grateful to the officers involved. Their reasoned discretion may have spared a life and prevented the inevitable psychological impact that follows on such matters. Then, of course, the second guessing, AG review and potential law suits were avoided.

Such outcomes benefit the entire community and build confidence in the quality and discipline of the city police as well as the Public Safety administration.

  3. Saratogians should be proud of the SSPD. It is a well respected police department. It is staffed by well trained, carefully screened individuals whose goal is to come to work each day, perform their law enforcement duties conscientiously and, at the end of their shifts, return home safely to their families. Sadly, these officers were in the recent past subjected to unfair criticism based on unsupported allegations posed by certain local activists and even by the NYS AG.

In 2022, a certain activist walked up to one of our police officers during a City Council meeting and screamed at him that he was a sub-human. While Commissioner Sanghvi objected to this offensive rhetoric, neither former Mayor Kim nor Commissioner Moran or former Commissioner Montagnino defended that officer. The officer maintained his composure as the department did as a whole during this period when activists were continuously and vociferously claiming without any evidence that our police were murderers.

We are fortunate to have an excellent police department serving the Saratoga Springs community.
